Born in Moya in 1956. He was a founding figure of the club since before the founding of Guaguas. Since he was the Calvo Sotelo Volleyball Club. He was the forerunner and pioneer of methods in the Canary Islands that were unknown until then. Likewise, he was the coach who took Calvo Sotelo to the Division of Honor, which later became the Guaguas. In addition, until the middle of the 80’s he was directing the Guaguas.

-This campus is the first big step for Guaguas to form its long-awaited quarry.

-The campus is a reality that we wanted to start over due to the circumstances of the Guaguas, which is a club that has reappeared after several years. We prefer this season to try to attract boys and girls, which is the novelty of the entity, for the future. We have already got 40 registered. With it we will start the campus next Monday, July 18.

-In addition, at an affordable price for all pockets. 20 euros for sports equipment and training, which in times of crisis is to be praised.

-Indeed, the price is actually for sports equipment and sports medical insurance that we have to take out. The success has been total and absolute. It is about everyone having access. We have 40 and from now on the ones we will write down will be for the reserve list because we are short of facilities. We want to do it well before we overflow and the idea doesn’t turn out the way we wanted.

-Subscribers and their families will do it for free. In case there was any doubt to get the membership card for the next season.

-It’s another one of our proposals. We wanted our subscribers and family members to be able to enjoy this campus for free. There have even been people who have subscribed now to be able to access. They already know that they have a free campus and this has already been a total success. Many people acquire the subscriber card and enter the campus free of charge. The truth is that it has been good for us, we have a good number of families that have adhered to the subscription issue. We did not have them, but it has been very good for us.

-Ten days of full volleyball. What can the boys and girls who go expect?

-They are just two weeks (class time) with qualified technicians and even with the presence, at certain times, of Yadrian Escobar, who is here on the island and is a professional club player. Without a doubt, he will serve as motivation for the boys.

-They will also learn from you, who is an eminence in this sport.

-Let’s all learn. Within the experience we have, we are always working with larger categories. Now we prefer to work with boys. We will do it from 12 to 18 years old. The idea is to capture for the future. We want players and players.

-The perfect future for Guaguas involves having a solid youth academy that nourishes the professional squad with players?

-Exactly, with the news that this year we will start with the women’s category, which for us is quite a challenge.

-For an eminence like you of this sport in the Canary Islands, does this summer concentration and the idea of ​​creating a quarry imply any special motivation?

-It is always an illusion to start a new project despite the years. It is a grassroots project that we hope to enhance. It is not enough for us that Guaguas is only known nationally and internationally only for its first team. Let them also know that we have a solid and future academy. It’s our wish.

-What would you say to the boys and girls who didn’t sign up because they had some doubt?

-Let them come to the next one. That this campus is made to learn and have the best time possible. As it is a summer campus, the intention is to learn while having fun. There’s no more.

-He has not stopped mentioning the word quarry. Will the dream of the Guaguas come true?

-It’s our ultimate goal. Have a quarry and grow. Also make an inclusive club with its women’s team. That it has both boys, which has been exclusive to the entity, and girls for the future.

-And how do you see the professional squad that has been forged this year? Do you like the team?

-This year I see the team very rejuvenated. Before we had a somewhat old team and now much younger players are coming. Younger but no less inexperienced. Surely the team will take a leap in quality thanks to the physical condition of those who come. Surely they will respond better in long-term matches, they will last longer. Honestly, I’m quite excited about the template. There we still have a youth and that means that little by little they are entering. We have the other with the Spanish team. Age is only a determining factor and it is always noticeable when competing in matches.

-What are the objectives for the 2022-23 campaign?

-The same as last year. To be in the best positions in Europe and go as far as possible. At the national level, both the League and the Cup are the basic goals for the club. Until now we will never look down, we aspire to the maximum. From humility and work, of course, but that is what we are going to try.
