Introducing The All Electric Chevy Silverado

0

Developed from the ground up as a fully electric truck, the Silverado EV offers a boundary breaking combination of capability, versatility and performance, coupled with advanced technologies. At launch, the Silverado will be available in two variants, the flagship RST First Edition, and a fleet oriented WT model. The WT will launch with 510 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque, and 8000 pounds of towing capacity.

Ultium Platform

The Ultium platform is the foundation of GM’s EV strategy and the driver of the company’s zero emission future. The platform has a 24-module Ultium battery pack that also acts as a fundamental structure. This structural design enhances the truck’s strength, durability and performance while also providing a more comfortable ride both on and off road.

The chassis is also designed with independent front and rear suspension with power delivery on the RST model coming from dual motors one on each axle. Automatic adaptive air suspension enables the vehicle to be raised or lowered up to 2 inches (50 mm). Standard is four-wheel steering which reduces the vehicle’s turning radius making it easier to maneuver in parking lots and enhancing stability and handling at higher speeds.

Functionality, Design And Performance

The RST and WT models feature up to 350kW fast charging capabilities, enabling the vehicle to travel up to 100 miles from 10 minutes of charge (based on GM estimates). On board the vehicle offers up to 10 power outlets with a total output of 10.2kW for countless worksites or recreational activities. Another caveat is the Silverado’s capability of charging another EV, using the available charge cord.

The Silverado has been designed for functionality and flexibility. It will be offered exclusively in Crew Cab models with short overhangs. The eTrunk, a lockable, weatherproof compartment in the front of the vehicle – provides enough space to fit a large suitcase. The RST features a fixed glass roof, increasing visibility, and the amount of light getting into the cabin.

An innovative Multi-flex midgate maximizes the storage capacity of the 5-foot-11-inches bed, providing about 9 feet of storage with the Midgate open. The rear folds in a 40/60 split offering configurations that allow the user to carry equipment while accommodating a rear passenger. An available tonneau cover allows items to be loaded into the bark of a weatherproof compartment.

Technology

The vehicle is packed with the latest advanced technology. Inside the vehicle has a large 17 inch diagonal LCD freeform infotainment screen, paired with an 11 inch diagonal driver instrument display.

A new application, Ultifi, a Linux based software platform that separates the vehicles software from the hardware to enable rapid and frequent software updates.  This will give drivers the chance of enhancing and evolving vehicle capabilities through future updates.

Availability

The vehicle will be assembled at GM’s factory ZERO, Detroit-Hamtramck assembly center. In the spring of 2023, the Silverado EV will debut a WT model with an estimated range of over 400 miles. Fall of 2023, a fully loaded RST First edition model will debut, after which Chevrolet will unleash the full Silverado EV portfolio.

The trucks will range from $50,000, to around $80,000 and more allowing customers to choose the trucks that meet their particular needs. However, the range topping fully loaded RST First Edition model, delivering a 400-mile range, will debut with an MSRP of $105,000.
