Introducing The Bremont Broadsword Jet Online Exclusive

Bremont is one of the newer watchmakers on the market. Founded in 2002, this British company produces some of the most innovative luxury timepieces you’ll find. And as of 2021, they’ve opened a new manufacturing facility, which is set to increase their annual output from 10,000 watches to 50,000 watches per year.

Brothers Nick and Giles English, the founders of Bremont, are well known for their support for the British armed forces, and in recognition for their work with veterans, the British Ministry of Defence has awarded Bremont with the Silver Armed Forces Covenant. This award recognizes British employers who provide services for veterans in the community.

As a celebration of their award, Bremont is releasing the Broadsword Jet. This is an online exclusive watch, which uses the Defence Ministry’s trademarked heraldry to create a one-of-a-kind timepiece. Here’s a quick overview.

A Military-Style Case

The Broadsword Jet has a mid-sized, 40mm stainless steel case, with a blacked-out satin finish. The lugs are relatively narrow, at only 20mm, with a smooth black leather strap. Multiple strap sizes are available, so anyone can find one that fits. I loved the bronze screw-down crown, since it added a touch of color to the otherwise all-black design.

The back of the case is actually one of the main attractions here. The top half is embossed with the Royal Navy Crest, with the British Army heraldry to the lower left, and the Royal Air Force insignia to the lower right. These are all trademarks of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces (HMAF), and Bremont is currently the only watchmaker in the world with a license to use them. They proudly announce this fact, with the words “Approved by Her Majesty’s Armed Forces,” stamped around the case back.

The bezel rises at a slight angle from the front of the case, and surrounds an anti-reflective, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The crystal is slightly domed, but not so much as to distort the dial.

The Broadsword Dial

The dial of the Broadsword Jet has the same black satin finish as the case. Around the outer edge, there’s a beveled outer index, with white hashes at the minute marks, and green lume dots at the five-minute marks, with a double dot at 12 o’clock. Inside of this, there are additional lumed blocks at the five-minute positions only. And inside of that, there are high-visibility white Arabic numerals. At the 3 o’clock position, there’s a date window in lieu of a numeral, with a white border, black background, and white print.

The top half of the dial sports a white Bremont imprint, above the letters HMAF, which are in smaller print. On the bottom half, there’s a 60-second subdial, which takes the place of a second hand. The hands are bronze, just like the crown, which helps to tie the whole aesthetic together. They have a broadsword-shaped profile, befitting the watch’s name, as well as wide lume stripes down the centers. This, combined with the white numerals and the lume dots, makes the Broadsword Jet very easy to read at night.
