Apple has reportedly acknowledged a “SIM not supported” bug affecting the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, according to a Memo seen by MacRumors. Some iPhone 14s are freezing completely after the “SIM not supported” message appears on the device’s screen, as reported by MacRumors.

The Apple memo reportedly said that the problem isn’t hardware related, which means it’s a software issue. To avoid issues such as this, the iPhone maker has advised people to ensure their software is up to date. In the meantime, Apple is investigating the problem and working on a fix.

So what should you do if your iPhone 14 is displaying “SIM not supported?” Apple says you should wait a few minutes and see if the notification disappears. But this is important—if the message remains on your screen, Apple says not to try to restore your iPhone 14. Instead, head to an Apple Store or authorized service provider and request technical assistance.

iOS 16 bugs

The bug is the latest in a string of issues specifically affecting the iPhone 14. But Apple has been issuing iOS 16 updates thick and fast to try and squash bugs as soon as it can.

Just last week, the iPhone maker released iOS 16.0.3, fixing a denial of service security flaw and an issue where incoming call and app notifications might be delayed on an iPhone 14 pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max. Meanwhile, iOS 16.0.3 fixes a camera issue in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max where the service may be slow to launch.

The release of iOS 16.0.3 follows major security updates—iOS 15.7 and iOS 16—both for flaws that have already been exploited by attackers.

As Apple says, to avoid security problems and also fix bugs, it’s important to keep your iPhone up to date, checking for updates via Settings > General > Software Update. It’s thought iOS 16.1 will be out by the end of the month, so keep checking your settings and apply it once it’s here.
