The Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to announce retained players` list for the upcoming season. The IPL 2022 will also see two new teams in Lucknow and Ahmedabad. The eight existing teams can retain up to four players from their current roster and there will be no right to match (RTM) cards at the auction. The mega auction will take place after franchises submit the names of retained players. While the eight old franchises are to submit their retention list today, the two new franchises — Lucknow and Ahmedabad– will get around 25 days to sign up to three players. Among those three players, two have to Indian and one overseas.
It`s official. Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj for the IPL 2022 season. RCB didn`t opt for the fourth retention and will be paying Kohli, Maxwell and Siraj Rs 15 crore, Rs 11 crore and Rs 7 crore respectively.
Meanwhile, five-time champions Mumbai Indians have retained captain Rohit Sharma (16 crore), Jasprit Bumrah (12 crore), Suryakumar Yadav (8 crore) and Kieron Pollard (6 crore). The team didn`t retain all-rounder Hardik Pandya, wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan and also the likes of Trent Boult and Rahul Chahar.
Punjab Kings, who are yet to win a title, have kept Mayank Agarwal (12 crore) and uncapped seamer Arshdeep Singh for Rs 4 crore. As expected, KL Rahul will not be part of the squad for the 2022 season.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has retained captain Kane Williamson and the uncapped duo of Abdul Samad and Umran Malik. The 2016 champions have released star players such as David Warner, Rashid Khan and Jonny Bairstow.
The defending champions Chennai Super Kings have also retained four players. But surprisingly Ravindra Jadeja has been listed as the first choice player and will be earning Rs 16 crore. The next three retentions are Mahendra Singh Dhoni (12 crore), Moeen Ali (8 crore) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (6 crore).
Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw and South African pacer Anrich Nortje have been retained by Delhi Capitals. There was no place for ex-captain Shreyas Iyer in the squad.
The two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders have also retained all four players. The team co-owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has kept Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer and Sunil Narine.
And last but not the least, Rajasthan Royals has opted for three retentions and they are Sanju Samson (14 cr), Jos Buttler (10 cr) and uncapped Mumbai batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal (4 cr).
