The second and third South Africa vs Netherlands ODI will be played on March 31 and April 2 respectively. The two matches are crucial for South Africa who haven’t yet qualified for the upcoming World Cup 2023 in India.
The Proteas, ranked tenth in ICC CWC standings, have to win both these matches and then hope Ireland lose at least one ODI against Bangladesh in a three-match home series in May to qualify directly for the mega event. Notably, the top eight teams will qualify directly for the October-November event.
Bhuvneshwar, who has been with SRH since their inception in 2013, and has led them in seven matches ( six in 2019 and once in 2022). The side won two of those seven matches under the 33-year-old senior India pacer.
After finishing eighth in the IPL 2022, the Hyderabad-based franchise has revamped their squad for this season. Markram is the third captain for SRH in three years. Kane Williamson had taken over the charge after the sacking of David Warner. Williamson will play for Gujarat Titans this season.
Markram scored 381 runs in 14 matches at an average of 47.62 and a strike rate of 139.05 in the last season. He recently led Sunrisers Eastern Cape to the inaugural SA20 title. In the tournament, where he scored 369 runs at a strike rate of 127 and bagged 11 wickets at an economy of 6.19 with his off-spin bowling.
The 28-year-old was recently named the captain of the South Africa T20I team.
Further, South Africa pacer Marco Jansen and wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen will also be unavailable for SRH’s first match. Harry Brook, Glenn Phillips, Adil Rashid, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Akeal Hosein will be the five overseas players available to choose from for the first match.
