The match which was scheduled to start at 7:30 PM on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad kept getting delayed as it continued to pour throughout the cutoff time.

As the waiting game kept match officials, players, as well as spectators, match referee Javagal Srinath and on-field umpires informed the two teams around 10:53 PM (IST) that the IPL 2023 Final between CSK and GT has been postponed and it will now begin at 7:30 PM on Monday (May 29), which is a reserve day.
The giant screens installed at the stadium flashed the message about the postponement of the game and also asked the spectators to carry the tickets for entry on Monday.
The cut-off time for the match to have a full 20 overs/side game was 9:35 PM. Once that time passed, it was always going to be a race against time for the ground staff to first wait for the rain to stop and later make the pitch and outfield ready for hosting the game.
A five-over-per-side match would have been possible had the ground been ready till 12:05 AM on Monday (May 29) but the match officials decided to postpone the game to the reserve day.
