IPL 2023 Final Reserve Day Rules: CSK vs GT Start Time, Closing Ceremony and Playing Conditions

0

Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s CSK was all set to lock horns with Hardik Pandya’s GT in the summit clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday (May 28), but rain and wet conditions forced the match to be postponed to Monday (May 29).

IPL 2023 Final moved to reserve day

The cut-off time for a full 20-over-a-side game was 9:40 pm, while a curtailed five-overs-a-side game had to start by 12:26 AM. According to the rules, if both of the above were not possible, a ‘Super Over’ starting at the cut-off time of 12:56 AM could decide the winner.

But none of the above was possible on the originally scheduled date – May 28. So, the final was moved to the reserve day (May 29), in which the fans will hope to see a full T20 game.

Is there any change in rules or start time? Is there a closing ceremony? What happens if it rains and the overs need to be reduced? Let’s take a deep dive into that now.

IPL 2023 Final Reserve Day Playing Conditions

• The reseve day will have the same playing conditions. However, the winner will need to be decided on the reserve day it self as there is only one reserve day and that is on Monday (May 29).

• To determine a result, there should be a five-over per side game or at least a Super Over if rain does play spoilsport. If the above two are not possible, then Gujarat Titans will be crowned champions as they finished table-toppers.

• The above is applicable when there is rain and no possiblity of play before the cutoff the time. The cut-off time for a full 20-over-a-side game is 9:40 PM IST, while a curtailed five-overs-a-side game has to start by 12:26 AM IST.

According to the rules, if both a full game or five-over game are not possible, a ‘Super Over’ starting at the cut-off time of 12:56 AM IST could decide the winner.

What happens if the IPL 2023 does not start by the cutoff time for a full T20 match?

If the match does not start before 9:40 PM IST, then we start losing overs for every eight minutes the game is delayed. Here is a look at the reported scenarios and the number of time outs available for each scenario:
