IPL 2023: From Akash Deep to Dinesh Karthik – List of Players RCB likely to release

0

Despite a stellar Virat Kohli knock, RCB failed to defend a score of 197 against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, and thus yet another promising season has come without any fruition. RCB have finished the season in 6th place and their hopes of an IPL title have gone in tatters.

RCB

This has been a fabulous season for some of their players though. Captain Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli have been their rocks this season with the bat. The South African has amassed 730 runs whereas Kohli has also been excellent with 639 runs this season.

But the burden on their top three has greatly hampered RCB, and the same pattern followed in the bowling as well. Mohammed Siraj was the standout bowler, but there was not enough consistency around him to make them a top bowling unit.

There were some decent results here and there, but overall, it was simply not good enough to get into the playoffs. And as they eye for next season, the RCB management will definitely aim to resurrect their squad with some decent additions. And to make that, they need to release some.

Players RCB may release ahead of IPL 2024

Here are some names who RCB may release ahead of the IPL 2024 season-

Akash Deep

Bengal pacer Akash Deep was retained ahead of the auction and he had a poor season. Akash Deep travelled for plenty of runs and his wayward bowling was taken apart by opposition batters.

He conceded at a rate of 11.8 runs per over in the two matches he played, getting just 1 wicket in process. The rise of Vijaykumar Vyshak kept him out of the squad for the majority of the season and RCB may offload him next season.

Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik’s dismal form has continued this season as well. The veteran wicketkeeper just managed 140 runs this season at a paltry average of 11.67. He failed to convert his starts and never got going this season.

The 37-year-old is approaching the final laps and it will be interesting to see if RCB hold on to him for next season. With Anuj Rawat waiting in the wings, Karthik may see opportunities limited in coming days at RCB.

Siddharth Kaul

RCB went for Siddarth Kaul in the auction but the Indian pacer hasn’t managed a game this season. It is vivid that the former SRH pacer is past his prime, but having a blank season indicates he is further down the pecking order at RCB than it was initially thought.

Kaul looks like someone who may get axed ahead of next season.

Kedar Jadhav

Once one of the most devastating batsmen Kedar Jadhav was brought in as a replacement by RCB this season. The 38-year-old got two games but could manage only 12 runs. He lacked conviction and it just seemed the player was immensely lagging behind in terms of game time and match fitness.

He is way past his best days and it just looks certain that Jadhav won’t be in the RCB squad next season.

Shahbaz Ahmed

Shahbaz Ahmed had a forgetful IPL this season. The all-rounder was poor beyond imagination this year and couldn’t resurrect his form despite numerous opportunities. He played 10 matches and could score only 42 runs at a strike rate of 108. Shahbaz was equally poor with the ball as well, conceding runs at 13.57 per over and could manage only 1 wicket.

It is to be seen whether RCB keep their faith in him or not. The Bengal all-rounder has done well for RCB in the past, but can be released in order to release funds for other players.
