However, due to the Lucknow mayoral elections, the date of the fixture is going to be changed. The civic body polls in the capital city of Uttar Pradesh are scheduled to be held on May 4 and 11.
The KL Rahul-led side will now host MS Dhoni and his band for the sought-after contest in the tournament a day prior to its scheduled date. The match will now be hosted on May 3 and it will be a day game at the Ekana Sports Complex.
Cricket fans in Lucknow and surrounding areas in Uttar Pradesh are eagerly waiting for the first game of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their city. It will be their first game when MS Dhoni-led CSK will be playing an IPL game in Lucknow.
“The TATA Indian Premier League match 46 between Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings, originally scheduled for Thursday (May 4) in Lucknow, has now been rescheduled for Wednesday, May 3.
“The fixture has been revised owing to the Lucknow Municipal Corporation election on 4th May. There has been no change in match timings and the game will begin at 3:30 PM IST,” said an official statement from BCCI.
There have been instances in the past when IPL fixtures have been changed due to polls. Ensuring the deployment of police personnel in and around the stadium on election days gets tough for the local authorities.
Due to the model code of conduct imposed by the Election Commission movement of public transport is also restricted in the polling areas.
In 2009, the IPL was moved to South Africa due to general elections in India in the month of April/May. Later in 2014, the first phase of IPL was held in the UAE due to general polls.
