According to a report in The Hindu, Dhawan underwent a fitness test during the PBKS’ training session on the eve of the match. However, bowling coach Charl Langeveldt said Dhwan “was not there yet”, adding that it would take a while for him to be match ready.
Langeveldt has also conceded that Liam Livingstone will be available for selection. The hard-hitting England batter arrived in the country over a week ago, but is yet to play a game. He arrived late in India only after getting a clearance from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
A report in The Indian Express has also suggested that the fitness of the pair will once again be evaluated on the match day. They might potentially play if they are declared match-fit.
Punjab are currently occupying the fifth spot in the 10-team IPL 2023 points table. They have won three and lost two games. In their last match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Punjab registered a thrilling 2-wicket win in the last over.
Josh Hazlewood unlikely to play
Further, RCB pcaer Josh Hazlewood has arrived in India but is still undergoing rehabilitation. The Australian pacer is unlikely to play. In his absence, left-arm pacer Wayne Parnell or England’s David Willey will very likely continue to feature in the eleven.
