In the match, Gill went berserk while batting for GT and ended up smashing his third hundred in last four innings. His 60-ball 129 created a flurry of records and fired the defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) to 233/3 in 20 overs and a 62-run win in the end.
The innings from the 23-year-old opener consisted of seven fours and 10 sixes. During the course of his innings, he took over Faf du Plessis’ tally of 730 runs to lead become the new holder of the Orange Cap.
He also became only the second Indian after Virat Kohli to breach the 800-run mark in a single IPL edition. His tally of three IPL hundreds is most any player at the age of 23. Also, only Kohli has scored more hundreds in one IPL season. He scored four hundreds in 2016.
Gill was substituted with Impact Player Joshua Little as GT came out to defend the mammoth 234-run target. Gill was spotted sitting in Mumbai Indians (MI) dugout alongside legendary Tendulkar during the course of the match. In the picture, the Punjab-born youngster can be seen listening carefully to the batting great.

Eyes will be on Gill when he takes field against four-time champions CSK in the IPL 2023 final at the same venue on Sunday, May 28. GT are eyeing their second consecutive title riding on the back of Gill’s sublime form. The match will provide Gill with the opportunity to become only the second cricketer to score 900-plus runs in an IPL season.
Gill is also part of India’s World Test Championship (WTC) final team. India will lock horns with Australia in the summit clash from June 7 at The Oval in London. The Indian team and fans would be hoping for Gill to carry on with his red hot form in England as well.
