Root, who has played 129 Test matches and scored close to 11,000 runs in Test cricket, was bought at his base price of Rs 1 crore by Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2023 auction. The 32-year-old hasn’t played a single IPL and is all set for his debut season.
“The guy I’m introducing needs no introduction, I’m sure we’ve all watched Joe having an amazing career so far. And I know how excited you are to be a part of the IPL, how much you are gonna get from it and how much you’re gonna give to the group.
“But of course, for us as a team, everyone in here is gonna learn so much from you and everything you’ll give to the group. So good luck, enjoy the experience, enjoy everything the Royals and IPL has to offer and looking forward to you having a great season,” Buttler has said in the video.

Earlier on March 25, Rajasthan Royals had posted the video of Root’s arrival at the team hotel and followed it up with a clip of him playing park cricket alongside Yuzvendra Chahal. “@josbuttler, come fast, Yuzi’s making a new bestfriend,” Rajasthan had captioned the clip.
Apart from Root, West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder and Australian spinner Adam Zampa are the other two big overseas signings for this year. The Sanju Samson-led side finished as the runners-up in the IPL 2022 season and would be hoping to travel the distance this time around.
Rajasthan face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their first match of the season on April 2.
