The IPL, along with its growing brand value, has garnered lucrative sponsorship offers and through them, the players have been benefitted. Each match of IPL 2023 records seven individual awards including the player of the match.
There is separate awards for best Catch, Most fours, Longest Six, Best Strike Rate and Fantasy Points awards for the players, but none is bigger than the Player of the Match. And in this article, we shall take a look at the most Player of the Match award winners of each team in IPL. Remember, we shall deal with the current teams only.
Here are the record-holders for each franchise with most Man of the Match awards-
AB de Villiers (Royal Challengers Bangalore) – 23
RCB’s legend and former player AB de Villiers holds the record for most MOM awards for an individual team in IPL. The former South African player was a sublime player for them and won 23 Player of the Match during his stay with the Garden City franchise.
He retired from the game in 2022 and is now involved as an expert in the tournament. Sadly, his stay with RCB didn’t end up with any silverware as RCB are yet to taste an IPL glory.
Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians) – 16
Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma is with the Paltans since the 2011 season. He has captained them to 5 IPL titles, which is the most by any franchise.
The 36-year-old opener is also the player with most MOM awards for Mumbai Indians. Incidentally, he is yet to win one award for MI this season.
MS Dhoni (Chennai Super Kings) – 15
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the sould of Chennai Super Kings stands tall with 15 MOM awards for them. The former India skipper has been with CSK since the inception in 2008, and has been through thick and thin with the team.
The legendary player has led them to 4 IPL titles and is already on course to another playoff place this year as well.
Andre Russell (Kolkata Knight Riders) – 13
KKR’s carribean star Andre Russell has won the most Player of the Match awards for them in history. The swashbuckling all-rounder has taken home the award 13 times, and has been one of the key performers for them over the years.
Although it hasn’t been the best of season for Dre Russ this year, the demolishing batter still has 1 MOM award to his name.
David Warner (Sunrisers Hyderabad) – 12
David Warner holds the record for most MOM awards for SRH in IPL. The Australian batter was one of the strongest pillars for them before an unceremonious end of his stint wih the franchise.
He is also the highest run-scorer among the overseas players in IPL and holds the record of scoring most fifties in the tournament.
Virender Sehwag (Delhi Capitals) – 10
Former India opener Virender Sehwag has won 10 MOM awards, the most for Delhi Capitals. His tenure with DC was mainly during their Delhi Daredevils days.
Sehwag later had a brief stint with Punjab Kings and now serves as an expert.
KL Rahul (Punjab Kings) – 10
Former Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul has own the most number of MOM awards for them with 10. He is also the fastest player to get to 1000 runs for a single franchise, which came during his PBKS days.
The Indian batter currently plays and captains Lucknow Super Giants but has been ruled out for this season with an injury.
Ajinkya Rahane (Rajasthan Royals) – 10
We are witnessing a different avatar of Ajinkya Rahane with CSK this season. But during his Rajasthan Royals days, Rahane was perhaps the best opening batter in the tournament for a couple of seasons.
Rahane, who possesses class and flair with his batting, was one of the biggest stars of RR with the bat. He won 10 MOM awards for them before making a move to Delhi Capitals three years ago.
Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans) – 4
Gujarat Titans acquired Shubman Gill before the auction in their debut season last year. And the batter has been a sublime servant for them.
Gill has won 4 MOM awards for the defending champions. He played a decent part in their title winning season in 2022, and has surpassed the stats this year with even bigger impact. Gill also cmpleted 1000 runs with GT in the last match.
Marcus Stoinis (Lucknow Super Giants) – 3
LSG all-rounder Marcus Stoinis is holding the record for most MOM awards. The Australian has already won 3 awards for LSG and has played a big part this year.
