IPL media rights: Jay Shah praises drafting of tender document | Cricket News – Times of India

MUMBAI: Elated at the response the industry showed in bidding heavily for the IPL media rights, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said it is the drafting of the tender document that paved the way for the show.
“The tender drafted by the BCCI for this process was an excellent one. It allowed optimum price discovery and the eventual figure is a telling note on what the property (IPL) is all about,” Shah told TOI.

Shah’s team began working on the details of the ITT months ago and a lot of deliberations took place on the packages that were going to be on offer.
“I kept talking about Package C in particular right from the start and we can all see what difference it eventually made to the overall auctions towards the end. The digital space in India, like anywhere in the world, has been a booming space and we were extremely confident about bidders coming to the table with a set plan. That’s precisely what happened,” he said.
It is the bidding for Package C that saw the value-discovery move from Rs 44,000 crore to the eventual figure.
“The money that BCCI will earn from these rights over the next five years will help with a lot of things that the board has planned for over the coming years. The BCCI has also been working on women’s cricket at the under-16 and under-19 levels which will become a feeder line for the women’s IPL that is being
worked on,” he said.
Meanwhile, Rebecca Campbell, chairman, international content and operations, the Walt Disney Company, said, “We are pleased to extend our association with the Indian Premier League and look forward to offering the next five seasons across our portfolio of television channels. We made disciplined bids with a focus on long-term value.
“We chose not to proceed with the digital rights given the price required to secure that package. IPL is an important component of our portfolio of television channels in India. We will be exploring other multiplatform cricket rights, including future rights for ICC and the BCCI.”
