If you missed out on Battlefield 2042 at launch, then now is the perfect time to give it another chance. Battlefield 2042 developer Dice has unveiled its latest roadmap for new content and gameplay changes. This includes new maps, reworked maps, new specialists and the long-awaited introduction of character classes. If you want to see if Battlefield 2042 has the potential to become a Call of Duty killer, then check out this weekend’s free trial.

Indeed, if you’re an Xbox or PC owner, you can download and play Battlefield 2042 for free over the coming weekend.

As part of Microsoft’s Free Play Days promotion, Battlefield 2042 is free from December 1 until the early hours of December 5 (UK time).

It’s also free to play on Steam, where the Battlefield 2042 is free from now until December 5.

And don’t worry if you’re on PlayStation, because Battlefield 2042 is getting a free week later this month.

The PS4 and PS5 version of Battlefield 2042 will be free to download and play from December 16 until December 23.

As for what’s next, Dice has confirmed plans to release update 3.1 later this month. The update will make big changes to the Manifest map.

Dice explains more: “In Update 3.1, releasing later in December, you’ll get to experience a new version of Manifest with HQ flags closer to the action, a tighter playspace, improved visibility, cover and sightlines, and pathing between flags improved to allow for more focused attack and defence of them.”

Update 3.2 will follow in January, complete with changes to the Breakaway map.

“We’ve moved the Oil Rig closer to action which in turn brings a more focused playspace.

“We’ve also designed new ways to play within the ice itself, as well as bringing entirely new flags based around updated areas of the Town and nearby Refineries.”

Even better news is that update 3.2 will bring back character classes, which should add some much needed balance to the game.
