Recently, terrible hailstorms, rainfall and storm created havoc in the state of Assam. According to the report, the Tinsukia district of Assam witnessed damage to a great extent with the loss of properties and the lives of two people.
In the backdrop of this, a video of a cyclone is currently circulating on social media. It can be seen in the video that the cyclone is damaging trees and houses in the region. It is claimed that this video is from the Tinsukia region in Assam.
However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. A video of a cyclone from Myanmar is falsely shared as from Assam.
What’s The Claim?
Sharing the video, social media users are claiming, “This is the first time Tinsukia is expressing with such weather”
Fact Check-
A Google Reverse Image search on the keyframes of the video led us to a YouTube channel in which the same video of the cyclone was uploaded on 22 April 2023. The caption of the video reads, “Strong tornado hits near Naypyitaw, Myanmar on 21 April 2023.”
Taking a clue from this, we ran a keyword search on YouTube. This led us to Myanmar Now News’s official YouTube Channel. On 24 April 2023, the same video was uploaded to this channel. According to the information, on the evening of 21 April 2023, 8 people were killed and more than 100 injured people received medical treatment after a storm hit Nay Pyi Taw region of Myanmar. Because of the strong windin Leway Township, 77 houses in the village of Cheda Oo and 155 houses in the village of Saysya Gone were damaged.
According to an AP News report, 8 people were killed and more than 200 houses were destroyed in a huge tornado that hit central Myanmar, close to the capital Naypyitaw. The effect of the tornado lasted for 40 minutes and damaged almost all the houses in the region. According to the authorities, a tornado of this size is quite rare. Myanmar faces storms and tornados during this period of the year.
Conclusion:
Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. The video of cyclone is not from Tinsukia, Assam but from Myanmar. A video of a cyclone from Myanmar is falsely shared as from Assam.
