On 7 October 2023, the Palestinian extremist organization Hamas launched a missile attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip. More than 4,000 rockets were reportedly used by Hamas in the attack . Hamas named the attack Operation Al-Aqsa Storm. In response to this attack, Israel launched a rocket attack on Gaza City the next day. More than 1,000 people have lost their lives so far in this conflict and more than 1 lakh people have been displaced.
Against this backdrop, many images and videos are being shared on various social media platforms. Currently, a video of an army man shooting down a helicopter using bazooka is going viral. Users are claiming that this is real footage of the ongoing Israel-Palestine war.
However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. This is not a real incident but a clip from a computer game known as Arma 3
Fact Check-
A close look at the video reveals that the smoke from the bazooka and helicopter explosion does not look real. Even the nearby shrubs did not move after the bazooka was fired. All of this made us suspicious if this is a real video or a simulated one.
We ran a Google Reverse Image Search on one of the keyframes of the viral video. We found the same video was posted by a Facebook user on 16 August 2023. The caption of the post reads, “Stinger Missile Launcher System E169.” We also noticed that many users had commented that this is a video of a game called Arma 3.
From this we found that this is an old video that was available on social media platforms before the current Israel-Paleastine war started.
This same video is also available on many YouTube channels. It is also said to be a scene from the Arma-3 video game. The caption reads, “KA-50 Battle helicopter shot down by FIM-92F Advanced Stinger Missile l St.77 MilSim ARMA3 ”
Conclusion:
Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. A video clip from the Arma 3 game was shared as real footage of a helicopter being shot during the current Israel-Palestine war.
