The Phoenix Suns and new owner Mat Ishbia are reportedly bringing in Hall of Fame point guard Isiah Thomas to take a “prominent role” in the team’s front office, per NBA insider Chris Haynes.
Ishbia purchased a majority stake in the Suns and Mercury for a record price of $4 billion in December, ending the controversial tenure of now-former owner Robert Sarver.
This won’t be Thomas’ first position as an executive in the NBA. The 12-time All-Star served as part owner and Executive Vice President of the Toronto Raptors from 1994-98, and worked as President of Basketball Operations for the Knicks from 2003-08. He also spent a stint as Team President for the WNBA’s New York Liberty.
Thomas also has head coaching stints with the Indiana Pacers, New York Knicks and Florida International University.
Thomas’ exact title with the new-look Suns organization is currently unclear.
