Last month, former NBA star Dennis Rodman unleashed an outlandish take about all-time great basketball legend Larry Bird.
The two-time Defensive Player of the Year claimed that Bird couldn’t make it in the modern era of NBA basketball.
“If Larry Bird played in this era, I think he’d be in Europe,” Rodman said. “I’m just letting you know, man. He’d be somewhere over there.”

It’s one thing to suggest that Bird might not have the same level of success in the modern era, but to say he wouldn’t even be in the NBA is absolutely absurd.
Isiah Thomas, Rodman’s former Detroit Pistons teammate, is one of the many people who disagree with this statement from “The Worm.”
The Hall-of-Fame point guard said Bird would still be playing at an MVP level and winning “two or three” championships in this modern era.
“My personal opinion on Larry Bird, if Larry Bird was playing today, he would still be the MVP of the league, and his team would still be winning championships,” IT said on Sway’s Universe.
Thomas suggested that Nikola Jokic’s recent Finals MVP and championship proves that Bird would thrive in this era.
“Now, why do I say that? Because we just watched The Joker, who is very similar to Larry Bird, take his Denver Nuggets team and win the championship,” he added. “So if I look at these two players, and if I’m saying that they’re similar, then Bird would win two or three championships in this era.”
Through his 13 NBA seasons, Bird collected 12 All-Star selections, three league MVP trophies, three NBA titles, two Finals MVPs and countless other accolades.
