Italy has just launched new high-speed rail routes connecting some of its top cities.

Leading train operator Trenitalia has added three direct services linking top visitor destinations to Rome’s Fiumicino airport.

Passengers can now reach the capital on high-speed trains from main stations in Naples and Florence.

The routes began operating on July 11th. Trenitalia has said the timetable is designed to coincide with flight arrivals and departures at the international airport.

The high-speed Frecciarossa trains will serve the route, allowing air passengers to travel between Italy’s major tourist cities in a short time.

The three routes take travelers from Rome Fiumicino to Naples Centrale and Naples Afragola (the high-speed train station) and vice versa as well as from Florence Santa Maria Novella, the city’s main station, to Rome Fiumicino.

The services are helping travelers move more easily between the north and south of the country.

Florence is famed for its world-class art, including in the prestigious Uffizi Gallery and the surrounding idyllic Tuscan countryside.

As the birthplace of pizza, Naples is a top destination for food lovers. It is also the gateway to the stunning sweeping coastline of the Amalfi Coast.

Now visitors to both destinations can reach the capital more efficiently in order to catch international flights including to cities in the US.

In a statement, Rome’s Fiumicino airport said the new rail links mean passengers could leave Naples or Florence at dawn and be in New York by the afternoon.

The airport has also said it hopes to continue improving rail-air connections by allowing flight passengers to check-in operations, including for luggage, from their railway station of departure in the near future.
