‘It’s just heavenly’: Top Gear hosts pay tribute to classic British cars in new adventure

Series 31 of BBC hit show Top Gear follows Paddy McGuinness, Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris testing out the best and worst of old and new cars. This episode saw the presenters go on an adventure across Iceland testing out some of the most prestigious classic cars the UK has to offer and seeing whether they can deal with the tricky terrain.

Freddie Flintoff was absent from the Iceland rally having been forced to self-isolate.

Nevertheless, his selection of a manual, diesel powered Range Rover took his place in Iceland, with both presenters praising the selection he had made.

Chris Harris chose a rally version of the Vauxhall Chevette, one of the best-selling hatchbacks in the UK in 1970.

He was over-the-moon with his choice, saying: “Look at it! This might be the best car I’ve had on this show.

“The Silver Shadow for me is just class, its opulence. It’s just special isn’t it.”

Paddy then impressed Chris with a way of learning how a Rolls Royce was used.

The famed Spirit of Ecstasy model on the front of the Rolls Royce can identify what purpose the car has, whether it was a car used for weddings.

After setting off, both drivers adjusted to their vintage vehicles and got the journey underway.

“This car is fantastic; it’s got all the mod cons on it as well.

“Granted these days they’re not mod cons, they’re more ‘old cons’, but back in the day these were cutting edge.

“It’s even got a Philips tape deck!”

Series 31 of Top Gear continues to air on BBC1 on Sunday nights.
