Ivanka Trump is retiring from politics ahead of her father’s third presidential run

Ivanka Trump is retiring from politics ahead of her father’s third presidential run. And frankly, I’m happy for her – I can’t imagine a more toxic workplace than the White House during Donald Trump’s tenure.

Notably, Ivanka was not in attendance when her father formally announced his 2024 presidential bid Tuesday night at his Mar-a-Lago Estate in Palm Beach, Florida, despite living a mere 90 minutes away in Miami.

“I love my father very much,” Ivanka wrote in a statement shared via Instagram shortly after her father’s speech. “This time around, I am choosing to prioritise my young children and the private life we are creating as a family.

“I do not plan to be involved in politics,” she continued. “While I will always love and support my father, going forward I will do so outside the political arena.”

The fallout from her four-year stint as senior adviser continues to follow her more than a year after vacating the position. Last April she was asked to testify for close to eight hours before the congressional committee investigating the Capitol Hill insurrection – an event she witnessed first-hand, having spent most of the day in the Oval Office taking meetings with her father.

And amid the overturn of Roe vs Wade, a former classmate accused Ivanka of having had an abortion in high school in a viral, since-deleted tweet. The allegation remains an unconfirmed rumour, but given Ivanka’s history of pro-life rhetoric, the implication was clear – hypocrisy is a heritable trait.

Increasingly, Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner have been distancing themselves from Trump’s political career and public appearances. She did, however, make time for a three-hour dinner with Kim Kardashian in Beverly Hills last month.

“Ivanka is the happiest she has ever been,” a source close to Ivanka told People. “She is laser-focused on her three young children. She is loving her life in Miami along with her freedom and privacy.”

The source added that Kushner isn’t expected to play an official role in Trump’s forthcoming campaign either. Instead he plans to focus on the private equity firm he formed last year.

Memorably, Ivanka once joked that being Donald Trump’s daughter is “hardest job in the world”. And I suppose I’d have to agree, when the “job” description includes tweeting about beans, defending your father against scores of sexual assault allegations, and having to shut down your fashion line in service of one man’s insatiable thirst for power.
