A TRAVELLER has revealed the common item he always leaves at home before a holiday, and it may surprise you.

The 59-year-old dad from New York explained why you should always leave your keys at home when packing for your holiday.

He told Bloomberg: “The one thing I actually never bring is my key fob with all my keys.

“I’ve always had a big keychain. And I have my house keys, my storage key, my gym fob, my work fob; my life is on that thing.

“I’m afraid of losing all of them, and it terrifies me to carry them to another country.”

He says he leaves them at home, as the doormen have a key in his apartment block, but says you should still leave them at home if you live in a house without this.

He said: “You could do the same thing in a house, the way that Airbnb renters leave a programmable lock around the back door.”

If you have to take your keys on holiday, you should never put them in your suitcase.

This is especially true if you have your address on your luggage tag.

If your bag is stolen and it has your keys in it, then the person with your suitcase can easily find your address and break in.

An expert told USA Today: “Don’t list your home address on luggage tags. Play it safe by using electronic luggage tags, or by listing only your basic contact information on a luggage tag.

“Most experts agree that if you can avoid listing your home address, you will be less likely to be targeted for a robbery while you are away.

Instead, it is advised to just put your name and phone number on it so whoever finds it can get in contact.

Travel experts have revealed the six things you should never pack in your carry-on luggage.

And a flight attendant has said there are three things she would never pack too.
