Ivy Getty Paired Her Vintage Lace Dress With a Botanical Updo at the 2022 Met Gala

For her first-ever Met Gala, artist and model Ivy Getty’s look combined the evening’s sumptuous theme, generational glamour, and her own verdant name. The moment began with a very special ensemble, a custom Oscar de la Renta gown crafted from vintage lace that belonged to her grandmother—and was closely followed by a bleached brow. “It was Fernando [Garcia]’s vision for the eyebrows and I wasn’t sure how they would look at first,” says Getty, who put her brows into the hands of her friend Clara (aka Tiny Jewish Girl on TikTok) ahead of the event. “I ended up kind of loving them! They were perfect with my glam for the night.”

In keeping with the Gilded Age dictate, hairstylist Brent Lawler built a banged and bouffanted updo (with the help of an arsenal of products by Act + Acre), the sky-reaching style framing a wash of high-drama romance by makeup artist Michael Anthony. “I knew the hair was also going to be a major focus point of the look,” says Garcia, who was drawn to a modern version of the turn of the century hairstyles inspired by heiress Consuelo Vanderbilt. But the main element of Getty’s aesthetic was, of course, the ivy, verdant vines crowning her updo and snaking around her silhouette. The hyper-realistic addition was the work of Brooklyn artist Sourabh Gupta. “He creates beautiful, realistic flowers out of paper,” raves Getty. Considering that she saged her hotel room at The Mark ahead of glam, it’s safe to say that the success of her inaugural Met is all down to plant-based notes.
