IWC Schaffhausen on Monday unveiled the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. The launch is timed for the Miami Grand Prix being held May 5 – 7. A distinctive feature for this watch is a “Miami pink” rubber strap. This same color pink will be part of team’s overall appearance for the upcoming race.
In addition, IWC will mark its comeback to Miami with a takeover of Jungle Plaza in the Miami Design District on May 3 -5.
With this launch, IWC marks its 10th anniversary of being the official engineering partner of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team.
Introduced at the first Miami Grand Prix a year ago, the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team is the first official team watch IWC has produced for Mercedes-AMG Petronas. The Swiss watch brand says the watch “pays tribute to the passion and determination of the team’s designers, aerodynamicists, race engineers, strategists and mechanics.” The pink strap is designed to match the team’s appearance at the Miami International Autodrome, where pink details will be featured on the gloves and shoes of Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. The watch and pink strap will be worn by team members at the race.
The chronograph features a 41mm case made of grade 5 titanium, which has the highest strength-to density ratio of any metal. Titanium is widely used in automotive engineering to manufacture components subject to extreme stains, such as engine valves. Its black dial is offset with printing and luminescence in the team’s signature Petronas green.
The chronograph is powered by the IWC-manufactured caliber 69385 automatic movement. The column-wheel movement comprises 242 parts and can be viewed through the sapphire glass back. Its bi-directional pawl winding system has a power reserve of 46 hours.
The new model with the Mami Pink rubber strap (Ref. IW388114) also comes with a with a green rubber strap that was used for the original reference. The integrated “EasX-CHANGE system,” allows the straps can be exchanged quickly and easily, without needing additional tools.
The watch is available online at IWC.com and in the IWC Miami boutique for a limited time.
