J.J. Redick continued a weekly tradition of appearing to hate his time on First Take.
The NBA analyst butted heads with Chris “Mad Dog” Russo during a segment on Wednesday’s show about Jaylen Brown. Russo rapidly listed 20 players he’d take over the Boston Celtics star, including Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, and Kyrie Irving.
Redick accused the pundit of hypocritically changing his stance after previously criticizing those injury-prone players.
“You are the absolute worst,” Redick told Russo, via Awful Announcing. “The fact that you put Kawhi, Paul George, and Kyrie on that list ahead of Jaylen Brown when all you do is complain about their availability? Stop it, man.
“I’m not debating whether or not those guys are more talented than Jaylen Brown, but Jaylen Brown plays. Jaylen Brown’s available. You can’t have it both ways, buddy.”

Stephen A. Smith questioned the genuineness of Russo’s “suspect” list, laughing after Russo named Irving.
Whether he likes it or not, Redick seems to have embraced debate by frequently going after his co-hosts. Last week, the former sharp-shooter mocked Smith’s college basketball career when claiming he didn’t understand the wear and tear an athlete endures.
Perhaps Redick is learning the TV game by playing an antagonist for viral moments like these, but maybe he actually can’t stand Russo.
