Jacinta and Xavier: My friend signed me up for Blind Date!

My friends actually signed me up for Blind Date so I was a little surprised when I saw your email come through asking if I wanted to go on a date the following week. Only slightly nervous, but more so optimistic, I said yes! This type of thing is way out of my comfort zone but I was interested in seeing how it would go.

I wasn’t too nervous before the date. I think I can put that down to it all being so spontaneous. I was just trying to lean into it even though it’s not really “me” to do this.

I’m glad I did it. I’m impressed with your work and can see why you matched us. We have a very similar mindset, we are both very upfront people who know who we are.

We introduced ourselves and started talking. I think we were able to communicate well. We discussed a wide range of topics like our hobbies, religion, and psychology, science fiction, we even touched on astrology which is not my thing but it was interesting to hear Jacinta talk about it.

We are both into fitness — she likes to go for runs and I’m more of a gym rat. We are both very literal people so that was nice.

We bonded over our weaknesses as well. Hers is cheese and mine is meats. We also bonded over our work and what drives us.

We covered a lot really. I feel like Jacinta is the kind of person that talks a lot when she is anxious and I’m the opposite, I tend to go a bit quiet but I think overall it was a good date. No awkwardness, easy flowing and I felt comfortable.

We finished up dinner around 8.30pm. I think we were both pretty exhausted from the week. We didn’t exchange numbers because I am useless with that stuff plus I wasn’t sure if there was a chance for a second date.

Although, I’d be keen for another. It is pretty hard to judge someone after just one meeting so I usually like to at least meet again to see.

I decided to sign myself up for blind date because what is the worst that can happen, really? At the end of the day, if it is just a good catch up with a stranger then that’s all it is. I went in very open-minded.

I wasn’t nervous at all beforehand. I meet so many new people every day with my job that I guess it just feels like second nature versus someone who might only work with the same people day in day out, I can see how this would be really nerve-racking.

I arrived for my date about five minutes early and my first impressions of Xavier were that he’s a good looking guy, quite tall, super smiley and very sweet.

I’d say we bonded a lot over food. Not so much over drinks. He’s not a fan of beer or wine so we ordered a margarita and got to chatting.

I’d describe Xavier as intelligent, kind and unique. He was a little shy at times during the date but once he started to feel comfortable he was fine.

He mentioned he’s been getting into philosophy lately but he didn’t want to bore me with the details so he kind of shot himself in the foot with that one because it sounded really interesting and I was keen to hear more.

Xavier is a huge nerd (self-described) which I thought was cool. He’s a big fan of Star Trek and Star Wards and all sci-fi stuff. Not so much my thing, I’m more of a non-fiction, documentary type of girl.

Once we finished up at La Cholita we said our goodbyes and I went on to meet some friends close by for a drink. We didn’t exchange details.

I had a really great time on my date but I do think that ultimately, there wasn’t much of a spark for me. I think Xavier is a catch — he is a handsome guy who really looks after himself, he is clean shaven, dresses well but we are just two very different people at the end of the day.
