Jack Lisowski described his World Championship performance on Wednesday as ‘substandard’ admitting he must improve in the next round, although he is confident he will do so.

Jackpot beat Noppon Saengkham 10-7 at the Crucible, a very solid win, but one that looked a little nervy at times in the final session.

On Tuesday Lisowski looked good in opening up a 6-3 lead, which he extended to 9-4 the following day, but the Thai star fought back and made things a bit edgy at 9-7 to the Englishman.

The world number 13 got over the line, though, but admitted he will have to step up a level in his next outing against either Judd Trump or Anthony McGill.

Asked to rate his performance, Lisowski told a press conference: ‘Yesterday, 8 out of 10. Today, cor, it was substandard today, subpar. I’ve got to go up the gears, man.

‘I think I will though, I’ll be alright, I feel alright. It’s a good little wake-up call.

‘That’s what happened to me last year against [Matthew] Stevens, I fell over the line against him and then played really well against [Neil] Robertson.

‘So, it is what it is, people play well here all the time and then donk out in the second round, so take the first win any way.’

Just after the interval began in Lisowski and Sanegkham’s match, Kyren Wilson made a 147 on the other table and Jack joked that it may have partly been thanks to him.

‘I could hear his brother screaming, I was sat in my dressing room and I could just hear this shouting,’ he said.

‘I thought, unless someone’s gone mad or it was another protest, that’s a 147.

‘I went on Twitter and saw it was a Kyren Wilson 147. He was practicing with me last week so that’s probably why.’

Lisowski will either play Trump or McGill over three sessions on Saturday, Sunday and Monday with their first round match coming to a close on Wednesday afternoon.
