Jake Paul v Tommy Fury: Tale of the tape

Jake Paul is confident UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman would pose little threat to him in the ring.

Usman is currently ranked as the pound-for-pound No.1 fighter in the UFC and called out Canelo Alvarez for a crossover fight before defending his title against rival Colby Covington at UFC 268.

Paul will step into the ring for the fifth time as a professional when he fights fellow celebrity Tommy Fury next month.

And he told TMZ Sports he would make “light work” of Usman if the UFC champ ever stepped foot in the ring.

“I mean, he [Kamaru Usman] could barely beat up a 170-pounder. Took a lot of shots, man,” Paul said.

“He’s getting old, right? He’s 35 and I think that’s starting to show. I think he is out of his prime already. He’s light work.”

Paul faced the biggest test of his fledgling boxing career in August when he edged past former UFC champion Tyron Woodley by split decision.

The internet star published a “hit list” before that fight which included names such as Conor McGregor and Canelo Alvarez.

And whilst Paul has respect for the Mexican’s abilities in the ring, he thinks Usman is nowhere near the undisputed champion’s calibre.

“You know, I respect Canelo and his boxing ability but as far as Kamaru Usman getting into the boxing ring, like I said, it’s light work,” he continued.

“Look what I did to, the five-time UFC champion… I know Kamaru beat Woodley, but in boxing, completely different.”

Usman is unlikely to step into the ring for a crossover fight whilst under UFC contract unless he is granted a one-off exemption from the promotion’s president Dana White.

Paul has previously traded words with UFC fighters Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz.

The 24-year-old – and his brother Logan – were called out by rising star Khamzat Chimaev for a fight earlier this week.

“I can smash this guys same night,” Chimaev said on Twitter.

“Listen Kumquat … you are just another UFC fighter pretending you can box,” Paul responded.

With most boxers fighting limited competition early in their career, Paul has compared himself to the likes of Muhammad Ali and Mike Tyson after fighting experienced opponents just four fights in.

“Nobody from Muhammad Ali to Mike Tyson to Floyd Mayweather was testing themselves as much as I was in my fourth fight,” he continued,” he said.

“I learned a lot about myself and what I’m capable of and performing under pressure.

“I look forward to bringing that experience to my next fight.”
