Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley show respect after rematch
Jake Paul’s haters have been told “shut your mouth” by UFC legend Chael Sonnen after he stopped Tyron Woodley earlier this month.
The YouTube star has been a divisive force in the worlds of boxing and MMA since making the switch from vlogging to professional fighting in 2020.
He has called out a number of top boxers and MMA fighters, but until facing Woodley in August and December hadn’t fought anyone of particular merit in fighting.
Ben Askren was a former Bellator and One FC champion, but was infamous for his poor striking during his prime, which was years prior to fighting Paul.
But after defeating Woodley in comprehensive fashion, Sonnen says it is time to give Paul the respect he deserves for his performances.
“I’m a little annoyed I must tell you,” Sonnen said during a video on his YouTube channel analysing the fight.

“I’m a little annoyed that nobody will give [ Jake Paul ] a pat on the back and just simply say, ‘Good job’ – two words!
“Shut your mouth, you do it for everybody else that goes out there and takes that risk, works hard, sacrifices and has victory.
“You tell them ‘good job’; right? It’s not complex and it irritates me that nobody wants to tell Paul ‘good job’.”
Paul has been mocked by a number of knowledgable minds in the industry for not fighting legitimate boxers, although he was set to face 7-0 Tommy Fury before an injury forced the Brit out of their fight.
And another criticism levied against the YouTube star is that he fights opponents who are too small, which Sonnen believes to actually be a point in Paul’s favour.
“I heard a complaint earlier today that Paul calls out smaller fighters and has a size advantage,” Sonnen continued.
“I’ve never seen him on the scale – I know they weight in – but I just haven’t seen it, but I would agree.
“When I watch them standing across the ring, it does look like Paul is noticeably bigger, I don’t know.
“I still dismiss it because the hardest guy to box is a guy smaller than you, it can be helpful in a wrestling situation but it’s unhelpful in a striking situation.

“If you look at Muhammad Ali, heavyweight champion of the world, he was 198lb, Mike Tyson in his prime was 220lb, neither Ali or Tyson every fought guys who they were bigger than.
“It made them faster, it helped them get to the target, it kept their conditioning up, which is a tough thing to do.
“I will also concede that size does matter and if you land a shot it’s going to hurt more, if you take a shot it’s not going to hurt as bad.”
Paul is now set to take time away from the ring as he holidays with his girlfriend in St Barth’s, before returning to America to help promote Amanda Serrano’s April or May fight with Katie Taylor.
It will be only after that event, which will be co-promoted with Eddie Hearn, that Paul will return to the ring for his sixth professional fight.
