Jake Paul confirms Tommy Fury has pulled out of December fight

Jake Paul banned the use of a particular type of glove for his first fight with Tyron Woodley in August.

The YouTube star had been accused of inserting a ‘no knockout’ clause into Woodley’s contract for the fight, but a bout agreement signed by the ex-UFC champion showed this to be false.

In fact, there were minimal restrictions placed on Woodley by fight contract standards, with Paul’s main request being a clause that he not wear Grant gloves.

Woodley wore Everlast mitts in the ring while Paul had his own custom-made Grant gloves.

The likes of Floyd Mayweather and Wladimir Klitschko wear the gloves, which are used for fighters who need hand protection around the wrists, but have slightly less padding.

USA Today released details of the contract, having reviewed the document, which they say included generally standard language with very few impositions on Woodley.

The YouTuber was initially accused of having the illegal clause in his contract by rival Dillon Danis, who is a training partner of Conor McGregor’s and a fighter with Bellator MMA.

Paul and Danis were at one point locked in talks to fight earlier this year, but he instead faced Ben Askren in his third professional bout.

Danis said during an appearance on The MMA Hour that Woodley had chosen not to stop Paul while he was rocked in the fourth round because of a contractual obligation.

“Tyron Woodley, from what I heard, had it in the contract that he was not allowed to knock out Jake Paul,” he theorised.

“I swear on anything, I swear that’s why when Jake Paul was against the ropes, Tyron Woodley didn’t hit him.”

The accusation was later given more credence when legendary fighter Claressa Shields asked Paul about it in a tweet, blasting him as a “con artist”.

“Jake Paul, answer the one question,” she said in a social media post. “Do you or do you not have a ‘no knockout clause’ in your boxing contracts?

“You are the biggest con artist boxing has ever had. Exposed, you are a con artist.”

Paul has, in retaliation to the rumours, included a knockout bonus of $500,000 for Woodley in their rematch, which takes place on December 18.

Woodley initially looked set to miss out on a second fight with the YouTube star as he signed to fight Love Islander and 7-0 professional boxer Tommy Fury for the December date.

But when Fury pulled out of his fight with Paul, Woodley opted to step in on late notice, and could be rewarded handsomely for finishing his rival.

“When you’re at the top, people are going to try to discredit you,” Paul told USA Today. “No matter what you’re doing, boxing, football, being the president. I’m squashing the rumours right now.

“I’m giving Tyron Woodley an extra $500,000 if he can knock me out.”
