Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley show respect after rematch

Jake Paul has explained in detail why critics are wrong to say his knockout of Tyron Woodley came from a lucky punch.

YouTube star Paul went 5-0 as a professional boxer when he viciously stopped former UFC welterweight champion Woodley last month in the sixth round of their rematch.

They had fought to a split decision which Paul won in August, and when Tommy Fury pulled out of his scheduled fight with the 24-year-old, Woodley stepped up on two weeks’ notice for a second fight.

And Paul made sure there was to be no controversy when he brutally put Woodley down with a right hand in the sixth, which he explained during an episode of Boxing with Chris Mannix was set up throughout the fight with a strong game plan.

“I’ve done that to every single person that I’ve fought,” Paul said as a rebuttal to those who claim the punch was lucky.

“So it’s not like I’ve knocked out everyone in a violent fashion in one way or another.

“My power is only increasing, and I set up the shot, you watch the whole sequence.

“I think I see his hand come flying down, I think again, go to the body, and then bring it up top with all my power and brought my hips through.

“It’s not lucky, look at all the people that Tyron Woodley has been in there with, and he’s never been KO’d like that.”

Paul is now set for a lay-off from competition until July as he focuses on Amanda Serrano’s undisputed lightweight title fight with Katie Taylor.

The bout is set to be the biggest in the history of women’s boxing, and will take place at Madison Square Garden towards the end of April or start of May.

And when he returns he will have a number of possible opponents, including a rescheduled bout with Fury or a step up in competition to face former middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

“It’s so interesting because at the beginning of the year I said ‘oh I’ll go 10-0 and then retire’,” Paul explained. “But in the blink of and eye I’m 5-0.

“It feels like I just finished my rookie season, chapter one of the book and there’s so much more left to read.

“I’m young, I’m motivated and I’m only getting better and better and it’s weird trying to map it out.

“But I definitely want to go undefeated and then retire, whether that’s 10 fights or 15 fights, we’ll see tonight.

“I created my bucket list, Mike Tyson is probably up there [as a dream opponent], that would be the coolest thing in the world.

“Then I think Canelo is on there, which I think can happen towards the end of my career when I’m sort of in peak physical condition and have all that experience under my belt.”
