Paul has revealed that Fury has accepted a bet that will see him change his name to Tommy Fumbles if he loses to the YouTube sensation in Tampa.
‘I offered Fury to change his name to Tommy Fumbles or put up $500,000 of his purse if he loses,’ Paul told ESPN.
‘He chose to agree to change his name. Guess he puts more value on money then he does his own family name.
‘Maybe he knows his family is disowning him once he loses, so money and [girlfriend] Molly [Mae-Hague] is all he’s going to have left.’
Older brother Tyson Fury will be fully behind the bet because he warned Tommy that he would have to change his name if he lost to Paul, regardless of any wager.
‘I think the fight needs to happen – Tommy and Jake will get the fight done,” Tyson told Boxing Social earlier this month.
‘If Tommy can’t splatter Jake Paul, I’ll retire him from boxing myself. If he can’t beat Jake Paul, forget about boxing. Because he’s got ambitions of being a world champion, never mind beating some YouTube guy.
‘But it’s a great fight for the social media world and for all the kids out there who support them both. It’s a great fight to watch, it’s a spectacle.
‘But Tommy – his name’s Fury. If he can’t beat Jake Paul, I’ll have to change his name.’
The fight will take place over eight, three-minute rounds in Tampa just before Christmas at an agreed weight of 192 pounds.
Paul has built a 4-0 record as a professional, already winning twice in 2021 against former MMA champions Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley.
Fury represents the first genuine professional boxer that he has stepped into the ring with, as all his previous opponents were making their pro boxing debuts.
The Brit has a record of 7-0 with four knockouts, although only one of his beaten foes held a winning record at the time of their fight.
Both men are novice professionals with little experience, which makes for an intriguing contest although the bookmakers have Fury as the odds-on favourite for victory.
