Boxing: Canelo Alvarez shakes hands with Caleb Plant’s team after win

Jake Paul has ridiculed UFC president Dana White after he was pictured watching Canelo Alvarez’s undisputed victory over Caleb Plant while sitting cageside at UFC 268.

Alvarez broke down Plant with an explosive penultimate-round stoppage to become the first man to unify all four belts at 168lbs.

And a huge bill headlined by Kamaru Usman’s rematch with Colby Covington was taking place simultaneously in New York.

With White pictured watching the boxing event, Paul quickly slammed the UFC president for ignoring Rose Namajunas’ victory over Weili Zhang, which took place in the octagon at the same time.

He posted on Instagram : “Hey Dana White, how are you going to disrespect ‘Thug Rose’ like that? Congratulations champ.”

White also posted an image of his betting slip which displayed him winning $40,000 after backing Alvarez to defeat Plant via knockout to the tune of $100,000.

And he confirmed the wager during the post-fight press conference citing it as his reason for watching the showdown.

White said briefly: “I like Canelo I watched the fight and I bet $100,000 on Canelo to win by knockout, that is why I watched the fight.”

Alvarez was frustrated for large parts of the fight which may have worried White but his breakthrough came in the penultimate period.

The Mexican threw a swift combination that floored his opponent who managed to rise but was shaken, before he ruthlessly dropped Plant again giving the referee no option but to stop the contest.

With history sealed with the undisputed 168lb titles he affirmed his status as the pound-for-pound king.

And White joined a whole host of names in expressing his admiration for the sport’s leading athlete.

But YouTube star Paul is not so fond of Alvarez and quickly made certain to mock the 31-year-old champion after his victory.

He has also instigated a long-term feud with the UFC president White over issues such as fighter pay and creating crossover bouts with fighters from the company’s roster.

Paul also recently dressed up as White during his recent halloween celebrations in an attempt to further rile the UFC president.

White attended his company’s huge UFC 268 bill which was headlined by a huge rematch victory for Usman over Covington.

And the ‘Nigerian Nightmare’ has continued to call for a crossover bout with Alvarez in the future which could frustrate White further if one of his biggest stars is taken away from the sport.

But the UFC tycoon has warned Usman that he could face a difficult time against the Mexican if they do meet.

‘I watched the Canelo fight tonight,” White said at the post-fight press conference. He don’t want to fight Canelo, he don’t want to fight Canelo. Come on, man. Let’s stop this s***. If Canelo wants to come over here, awesome fight.

“Those two put on an incredible performance (tonight).”

But boxing’s pound-for-pound king moved quickly to dismiss any prospects of a meeting labelling it a “payday” grab.
