Boxing: Jake Paul calls out Canelo and Tommy Fury

Jake Paul has trolled Canelo Alvarez by suggesting he should sign the pound-for-pound great to his promotion label after his victory over Caleb Plant in Las Vegas.

The Mexican was crowned the first undisputed 168lb champion with a penultimate round stoppage of rugged American rival Plant.

But he was forced to step-up his level in a hard-earned victory with Plant able to frustrate the 31-year-old for large segments of the encounter.

And now YouTube star Paul has moved to troll Alvarez despite his success by questioning whether he should sign him to his promotional label Most Valuable Promotions.

Paul posted on Twitter : “Thinking of signing Canelo to Most Valuable Promotions. What do you all think? He only has one loss.”

The 24-year-old created his label which helps him self-promote his fights and the company also has a small roster of fighters including world-champion Amanda Serrano.

And he has been active in calling out the pound-for-pound king in his own plans to become world champion in the sport.

But the satirical jibe about Alvarez’s only career defeat to Floyd Mayweather will likely fall on deaf ears as he celebrates his fourth win in 11 months.

He was forced into a complex dilemma having to solve an awkward style employed by Plant from the opening bell.

For a large volume of the fight, the 31-year-old was left frustrated with a lack of openings despite out-landing his opponent for the majority of the showdown.

But as the clock ticked down momentum began to swing in his favour and after a rallying call from his corner he went through the gears in the penultimate stanza.

A swift combination signalled his breakthrough dropping his opponent to the canvas but Plant rose despite looking unsteady on his legs.

Alvarez is notorious for his clinical finishing and closed the show with another thundering barrage, which forced the referee to end the contest and crown the pound-for-pound star undisputed king of the division.

And he remained coy on his future plans after another resounding victory.

“We are always looking for the best fights and defending the titles is always important,” Alvarez said.

“But like I said before, right now we are focused on enjoying this fight, trying to enjoy the moment that is really meaningful and then when the time comes we will think about the future, maybe January we will see what is next.

“I have nothing in particular in mind right now, but I love challenges and whatever comes my way, I’ll be ready for it.

“I’m ready for any challenge anytime but we will see what comes next year. But right now I am enjoying the moment.”

Alvarez is unlikely to face YouTube star Paul in the near future despite refusing to rule out a financially lucrative meeting in the future.

Meanwhile Paul will face his most dangerous test yet when he takes on Briton Tommy Fury on December 18 in Florida.
