Jake Paul admits Tommy Fury fight cancellation cost him “millions”

Jake Paul has taken aim at Eddie Hearn after wrongly assuming the promoter came up with Tyson Fury ‘s “rubbish” retirement claim.

WBC heavyweight champion Fury announced his retirement from boxing after knocking out Dillian Whyte in April. His decision was questioned by boxing fans with an undisputed clash against Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua seemingly on the horizon for the undefeated Brit.

The Daily Mail have since reported that Fury is in talks with Saudi Arabia reps to face the winner of Usyk and Joshua’s planned August rematch in an undisputed fight. It’s claimed the fight is targeted for several days before the World Cup final in Qatar in December.

Fury reacted to the report by taking to social media to say, “This is all news to me! Biggest load of rubbish ever!” Paul then quote tweeted Fury’s response and suggested Hearn came up with the news, replying: “anything that comes out of [Eddie] Hearn’s mouth is rubbish”.

Hearn has previously stated he believes Fury will only return if Joshua beats Usyk in their rematch, telling iFL TV : “I think if Usyk was to beat Joshua [again], I think he will stay retired because I don’t think he wants to fight Usyk. But I think if AJ wins, and I truly believe he will, then you will see the biggest fight in the history of boxing.”

Fury has claimed he is walking away from the sport as an undisputed heavyweight champion despite only holding the WBC title and being yet to defeat either Joshua or Usyk in his career. ‘The Gypsy King’ has continued to train as normal since hanging up his gloves.

He insists that he is only training to keep his mind and body sharp, dismissing any chance of a return unless offered an exhibition fight. Hearn has previously stated he doesn’t think Fury will retire and doesn’t think the WBC should strip him of his heavyweight belt just yet.

“It’s very easy for Tyson to go back and go, ‘Look, I’m just gonna have some time now. Let me just think about what I’m going to do. I know I said that after the fight, but let me have some time,'” he said.

“They shouldn’t strip him, of course not. He doesn’t have to retire, he doesn’t have to give them a decision when his next fight is just yet. He’s just boxed. Everything is done properly, but we all know he’s not retiring. I expect to see him fight the winner of Joshua vs Usyk in December.”
