Jake Paul and Tyron Woodley face off ahead of rematch

Jake Paul has transformed from a YouTube star to a boxer thanks in part to a gruelling training regime over the last few years.

Paul, alongside his brother Logan, has always been super fit, playing football and wrestling during his high school days before moving to LA to pursue his social media dreams.

The social media influencer made his debut in 2018, facing off with fellow YouTuber Deji Olatunji in a six-round white collar bout.

After stopping Olatunji in the fifth round of their Manchester Arena fight, he decided to keep fighting, and turned professional in January 2020 to face another social media star in AnEsonGib.

However, his next three bouts didn’t tell us much about his fitness, as he stopped Gib within a round, before taking out NBA star Nate Robinson and ex-UFC fighter Ben Askren within three rounds altogether.

But we saw Paul’s conditioning on display in his most recent fight against Tyron Woodley, where he was taken eight three-minute rounds by the former UFC welterweight champion.

The YouTube star was hurt in the fourth round of his clash with Woodley, and was taken past the second round for the first time since his win over Olatunji three years prior.

Woodley was used to fighting for five MMA rounds, or 25 minutes, during his time as UFC champion, but Paul had not gone past 15 in a legitimate fight.

He managed to come on strong as the fight finished, and many have wondered how he achieved his level of fitness given his minimal experience in the sport.

Australian Men’s Health Magazine caught up with Paul, and discussed his daily training regimen and diet as he prepares for his second meeting with Woodley…

Jake Paul’s diet

If you want to eat like Jake Paul, you’ll start your day with a breakfast which is high on protein.

Paul eats an omelette with chicken, sunny-side eggs, toast, and fruit for his first meal.

The YouTuber then eats a heavy lunch after his early training, saying he eats lean chicken and rice or quinoa, with salmon and quinoa on occasion if he changes it up.

“I’ve always got vegetables in there, like Brussels sprouts, asparagus, broccoli,” Paul told the magazine.

For dinner, Paul keeps it simple, eating either

fish, chicken, or red meat. He occasionally channels his inner Joe Rogan by eating elk, but that’s rare.

Jake Paul works out in the gym

Jake Paul’s daily exercise routine

When Paul starts his week, he begins with a bowl of oatmeal before meditating for 10 minutes.

After his morning meditating, Paul hits the streets of Dorado, Puerto Rico for a seven-mile jog.

He follows that run with a nap, once he has had an ice bath and stretched throughout the morning.

In the evening he makes his way to the gym where he hits the ring to take on 20 rounds of shadow boxing, mitts, heavy bag, speed bag and noodle drills.

He finishes his day with core and neck exercises, and before bed does some more stretching and ice baths.

On Tuesday, Paul takes on an intense sparring match. He spars for anywhere from four to 10 rounds, generally with two opponents.

“Sometimes I’ll spar two guys,” he said. “It’s always good to have a fresh guy come in, just sort of be there on you for some cardio.”

It’s more cardio on a Wednesday, as Paul does wind sprints on a big football pitch, and then hits the ice bath, before recovering with a massage, stretches, some cupping and cryotherapy.

By Thursday, Paul is spending the morning on a strength and conditioning circuit.

As the evening comes around, it’s back to the boxing gym for 10-20 rounds of mitts and heavy bag, before another lighter boxing session on Friday night.

He finishes his week with another sparring day on Saturday, before what he calls an “intense yoga session” in the evening.
