Polluting the Ganga will cost dear to those responsible as the government is preparing to take major action against companies and their officers, said managing director, Jal Nigam, rural, Balkar Singh, who arrived in Prayagraj to review departmental work on Friday.
The MD along with the officers inspected the STPs under construction at Salori, Naini and Phaphamau.
He said that the Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply departments will file cases against the companies and their officers polluting the Ganga.
He issued strict instructions to the officers in this regard on Friday. He instructed officers to start the Phaphamau STP before December 20. The MD also warned officers of strict action in case of laxity. He also gave instructions to tap a dozen drains flowing into the Ganga within the next 15 days.
He reviewed the progress of Ganga cleanliness and Jal Jeevan Mission in a meeting with departmental officers concerned at the Circuit House. The MD reprimanded the negligent officers. He said that if even a single drain is found emptying in the Ganga, the people responsible for it will not be spared. There will also be an FIR lodged against them along with a heavy fine.
