Jamahal Hill is ready to shock the MMA world with a big win against Glover Teixeira at UFC 283.
There’s a first time for everything and Jamahal Hill is going through that at UFC 283, as this is his first time headlining a UFC PPV. He walks into this main event against Glover Teixeira, with the 205-pound championship on the line. After only seven fights in the promotion, Hill is poised to complete his sprint to UFC gold.
Hill earned his way into the UFC when he picked up a victory over Alexander Poppeck on Dana White’s Contender Series back in July of 2019. After winning that fight via knockout, he was awarded a contract and made his official Octagon debut a few short months later. Since then, he’s put together a 5-1-1 record with wins over Thiago Santos, Johnny Walker, Jimmy Crute, Ovince Saint Preux, and Darko Stosic. Since joining the UFC, Stosic is the only man to make it out of a fight against Hill without being stopped in violent fashion.
“There are no easy fights in the UFC, especially not at this level,” Hill said during the UFC 283 media day. “I’m ready to lock in for five rounds and go to war. My mind is on a different level.”
Hill finds himself ranked number seven coming into the UFC 283 main event. After Teixeira dropped the light heavyweight championship to Jiri Prochazka at UFC 275, Prochazka was forced to drop the belt due to injury. The promotion attempted to have Jan Blachowicz and Magomed Ankalaev claim the belt, but their fight at UFC 282 ended in a split draw. That ended up with Hill being selected as the next man up to take on the former champion in the UFC 283 headliner.
Glover Teixeira is an experienced threat to any opponent
“He’s an OG [original gangster] of the game, he’s been around for a long time. For a reason,” Hill said. “You can’t be doing what he’s doing at his age and not be one of the best of all time. I’ve always been a fan of Glover. It has always been great to watch him.”
Teixeira is one of the elder statesmen of mixed martial arts, widely respected by his peers. His professional career dates back to 2002, and he’s faced off with some of the most loved names in the industry including Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, Marvin Eastman, Ricco Rodriguez, Quinton Jackson, and many more. He will bring a 33-8 professional record into his third championship fight under the UFC banner.
