Film producer Barbara Broccoli has shared an update on the much anticipated search for the next James Bond.
The 62-year-old and her half-brother Michael G. Wilson are responsible for finding the actor to replace Daniel Craig as everyone’s favourite spy.
A number of famous names including Bridgerton’s Regé Jean-Page, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Hardy and Idris Elba have circulated in recent years as being hotly tipped to take up the role.
But unfortunately we’re going to have to wait a bit longer before we know who will be the – what is sure to be very well-proportioned – face of the next 007.
Everyone get ready to exhale, as speaking to LADbible at the BAFTAs on Sunday about the speculation, Barbara said: ‘No, we haven’t even started casting yet.
She added: ‘There isn’t even a script.’
The revelation is still, as Barbara said last year, probably a ‘couple of years off’.
At the time, she said: ‘The thing is, it’s going to be a couple of years off. And when we cast Bond, it’s a 10-12-year commitment.
‘So he’s probably thinking, ‘Do I really want that thing? Not everybody wants to do that. It was hard enough getting [Daniel Craig to do it]. A lot of people think, “Oh yeah, it’d be fun to do one!” Well. That ain’t gonna work!’
It’s not just the time commitment that’s making the search for a perfect bond tricky though, but the fact the character – which has been around since 1953 – must be reinvented entirely.
Barbara explained: ‘That’s why, when people go, ‘Oh, who are you going to get?’ It’s not just about casting an actor for a film. It’s about a reinvention, and “Where are we taking it? What do we want to do with the character?”‘
“And then, once we figure that out, who’s the right person for that particular reinvention? With [Craig], when we had the conversation at this very table about, you know, [whether he was] going to do it, he said, “Well, I’m going to do it. I really want to be a part of it, the whole thing.”

Barbara is, er, really selling the job, which has been expertly filled by Daniel since he took over the role from Pierce Brosnan for Casino Royale in 2006.
Daniel, 54, said he had ‘no plans’ to continue acting after hanging up his shiny spy shoes in 2021 after No Time To Die, but then landed a lead role in mystery film franchise Knives Out.
So there is life after Bond, everyone, by the way…
