James Gunn Says He’s Stepping Back from Debunking DC Rumors

0

On Twitter, James Gunn has been known to debunk rumors involving his projects. Given how he’s in pre-production on his next film, Superman: Legacy, there have been more rumors than normal over the past few months, many of them concerning potential cast members. Gunn has addressed many of them already, and at one point, he issued out a general rule to not take any of these reports seriously, as too much of what’s reported isn’t entirely accurate.

On Saturday, Gunn took back to Twitter to address his mounting frustrations over the rumor mill getting things wrong. He referrred back to his warning to take these kinds of rumors with a grain of salt and not to believe anything unless it comes from him directly. With that said, Gunn also noted how he’ll be stepping back from debunking so many rumors, going on to provide his three reasons for why he’ll be doing so. As Gunn tweeted:

“I’m getting barraged with bullsh*t DC rumors this morning. I’ll just reiterate the general rule not to believe anything unless it comes from me or Peter. But, unless it’s especially egregious, I’m going to slow down on calling shit out. (Sorry, I know, it’s one of my favorite traditions). There are three reasons for this:

  • 1) Some people are making up lies to get attention from me or to get clicks & I don’t want to encourage that.
  • 2) I’ve read a hundred rumors this morning. ONE of them is half-true. So I don’t want to be used as a way for people to throw nonsense at the wall until something sticks.
  • 3) I’m storyboarding Superman Legacy and don’t have time! Have a great day!”

Gunn recently said that only one role has been cast in Superman: Legacy, and despite what you might have heard, it’s not Clark Kent or any of the other major players. Meanwhile, a variety of names have recently popped up in the rumor mill among reports that they’ve auditioned for Superman: Legacy roles. Among them has been Rachel Brosnahan, who’s rumored to be up for the role of Lois Lane, and while she hasn’t outright confirmed that she auditioned, she mentioned how much she’d love to get the part.

“I mean, look, take everything you read on the internet with a grain of salt, is my first piece of advice,” Brosnahan said on The View, concering the rumors. “But it would be extraordinary. I grew up watching Lois Lane, this incredibly talented journalist who is far from a damsel in distress. And I would jump at the chance if it arose.”

Superman: Legacy will be released in movie theaters on July 11, 2025. Meanwhile, the film that looks to be the last Marvel movie for Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, can currently be seen in movie theaters. If we were to believe recent rumors, Gunn spoke with one of the stars of the movie about potentially playing Lex Luthor in the movie, with rumors of it possibly being Bradley Cooper, though it’s also been reported that Renfield star Nicholas Hoult is up for the role. But, as Gunn has warned, let’s just take all of that with a grain of salt for now.
