James Martin was welcomed onto The Pet Show on Sunday and chatted to hosts Joanna Page and Dermot O’Leary. The ITV chef opened up about his love of dogs and spoke about his own pair of pups. James has a working cocker spaniel called Cooper and a Lhasa Apso called Ralph. While chatting about his dogs on the show, James revealed Cooper is specially trained not to bark.
James brought his gun dog Cooper into the studio with him to meet Joanna and Dermot.
He said: “I had Cooper from about 10 weeks and I’d always wanted a working gun dog.
“I was brought up on a farm, so had a long history with working dogs,” the chef added.
However, James explained his two dogs are very different and insisted Ralph is the “boss of the house”.

“He’s actually designed to be a peg dog,” he added.
Explaining the job of a peg dog, James said: “You’re usually stood on top of a hill or behind a field and you’re retrieving the game.
“That game then goes to my restaurant. So, the pheasants and partridge will then go back to the restaurant,” he revealed.
Detailing how Cooper knows where the game is, James explained the dog is trained to specially use its sense of smell.
