Reports have claimed that Arsenal are planning to bring forward their summer plans and instead sign Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk in January. The Ukrainian predominantly operates on the left, but would allow for more competition in the forward areas and allow Martinelli to move centrally should Arteta prefer the Brazilian up front instead of Nketiah.
Arsenal will have to fend off competition and pay a hefty price tag to sign Mudryk mid-way through the season, however. Big-spenders Newcastle have also been linked with a move for the 21-year-old, while his current club have been publicly asking for £100million.
Shakhtar director of football Darijo Srna told Marca: “Who wants to sign Mudryk has to pay a big amount of money — otherwise our president will not sell him. Jack Grealish was sold for [£100m] and Mudryk’s level is not lower.”
