As exciting as it is for Jamie Lee Curtis to reprise her role as Laurie Strode for likely the last time in Halloween Ends, it isn’t easy to say goodbye. Coming to theaters and Peacock on Oct. 14, the film is the third installment of the Halloween trilogy at Blumhouse that began with the 2018 movie followed by last year’s Halloween Kills. There are no additional Halloween sequels in the works, as Halloween Ends was written to conclude the Laurie Strode vs. Michael Myers story arc that began in 1978.
At New York Comic-Con, Curtis spoke with Halloween fans ahead of the premiere of the new movie. She is ready to accept that this is her last hurrah as Laurie Strode, but at the same time, saying farewell to the final girl is making her emotional. As seen in a video from NYCC posted online by Universal Horror, Curtis quips, “You know, endings are a bitch, but so is Laurie Strode.”
Just before breaking down into tears, JLC added, “So… I’m ready to end it… but I’m gonna miss you so much.”
“No matter what I do — whatever the f*** I do forever — Laurie Strode is because of you and I thank you,” JLC also told fans at the panel, via Variety. “At this point, Jamie and Laurie have become woven together. There is no separation” and “I don’t have anything in my life without Laurie Strode. Nothing. I wouldn’t have a career, I wouldn’t have a family.”
Meanwhile, Curtis also touched on her previous return to the franchise by explaining how Halloween H20 was her idea, with the actress personally pitching the concept to John Carpenter and Debra Hill two years ahead of the 20th anniversary of Halloween. As for Laurie’s controversial death in the sequel, Halloween: Resurrection, Curtis also took credit for that as well, claiming she requested to be killed off in the first ten minutes as Laurie “couldn’t live” with herself for getting an innocent person killed.
Jamie Lee Curtis Has Been Playing Laurie Strode Since 1978
Horror fans will probably question if this really is the end of Laurie Strode, given that the character has been killed off in alternate timelines in the franchise already. The Halloween franchise remains one of the most popular names in horror, so chances are, the movie series will continue on, even if the next film will be another reboot. Time will tell what happens, but Curtis recently told EW that she feels it’s time to finally step away from the role with grace after four and a half decades.
“I need to now cut her loose and let her live in the minds and hearts of the fans that have supported her. I now get to go off and do my own thing,” Curtis said.
Halloween Ends will premiere in theaters and on Peacock on Oct. 14.
