Jamshedpur FC are having little at stake when they take on Gokulam Kerala in their final Group C match of the Super Cup, taking place at the EMS Corporation Stadium in Kozhikode on Tuesday (April 18).
Jamshedpur have the luxury of reaching the semis despite being three points behind their two rivals FC Goa and Mohun Bagan. The Jharkhand-based outfit is ahead of the two on head-to-head by defeating them both earlier.
Jamshedpur defeated the Goans 5-3 in a goal fest and then made light work of the Indian Super League Champions 3-0. Jamshedpur coach Aidy Boothroyd sees this as an apt opportunity to test his side’s bench strength.
“We’ve got options to field players who have not been used because of the team’s form, but we have to assess the injuries and make a decision,” said Boothroyd ahead of the match, as per indiansuperleague.com. “We’ll be focusing on our team and what we can do. We’ll do as much as we can to progress in this competition.”
Gokulam Kerala, on the other hand, are the bogey side in the group as the I-League side were handed a 1-5 drubbing by Mohun Bagan and then Gaurs confirmed their exit from the title run with a narrow 0-1 defeat. This will also be the last time in this season’s Super Cup that a home team will be in action. Coach Francesc Bonet sees the progress his side has made and expect a better performance.
“We’ve noticed a marked improvement of our team after the first match. Against Jamshedpur, we aim to keep improving and compete against a good Hero ISL team. I feel we can have a better result in this match,” he said as quoted by indiansuperleague.com.”Playing at home is always an advantage. We want the fans to come and support us in our final game of the Super Cup and we will make them enjoy the game.”
