Sen progressed to the semi-final after straight games win against Koki Watanabe of Japan in the quarter-final on Friday (July 28). The Indian shuttler eased past the Japanese shuttler by a scoreline of 21-15, 21-19 in the last 8 clash that lasted for 47 minutes.
In the earlier rounds, the Canada Open 2023 champion from India overcame compatriot Priyanshu Rajawat in three games in the opener, but sealed a straight games win over another Japanese in Kanta Tsuneyama in the pre-quarter final.
Christie, on the other hand, eased past third-seeded Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand in the other quarterfinal match to reach the men’s singles semi-final. The fifth seeded Indonesian shuttler needed 44 minutes to knock out his Thai counterpart 21-16, 21-16 in the last 8 clash.
In the previous rounds, the reigning Indonesia Masters winner eased past Malaysia’s Cheam June Wei in the opener followed by another straight games win over Weng Hong Yang of China in the second round.
Now, Sen will face an opponent he has met two times so far in the form of Jonatan Christie. It’s currently all square 1-1 between the two in the head-to-head battles.
While Sen won his meeting with Indonesian in 2020, Christie beat the Indian en-route to his Indonesia Masters win earlier this year. Both the matches came in either the semifinal or quarter-finals.
