Jazz At Lincoln Center To Reopen Thursday With In-Person, Livestreamed Concerts Celebrating Wynton Marsalis’ 60th Birthday

Jazz at Lincoln Center will reopen its doors to a live audience for the first time in 20 months this Thursday with a special concert celebrating the 60th birthday of Wynton Marsalis, its managing and artistic director.

At the concert—whose program will be repeated on November 19 and 20—the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra will be joined by guests Summer Camargo, Giveton Gelin, Tatum Greenblatt and Anthony Hervey, trumpeters and rising stars who have been mentored by Marsalis in JLCO’s education programs.

The concerts will feature performances of Marsalis’ works written for big band from across his four decades of playing, arranging and composing; Marsalis also will perform with a small group of JLCO members and guests, something he has not done in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater since 2011.

Although tickets for the reopening concerts are sold out, the opening night performance will be available via livestream at 8 p.m. ET on November 18 and then be available on demand until midnight on November 25.

The orchestra’s 34th season, which will run through June 11, 2022, will feature live concerts, webcast performances, in-person and virtual education programs, worldwide tour dates and the release of new Blue Engine Records titles. In addition to Marsalis, concerts will honor jazz luminaries including Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Dave Brubeck, Wayne Shorter and Jelly Roll Morton, and also premiere new works by Marsalis and Cecile McLorin Salvant.
