Highs and lows. Jenelle Evans and her husband, David Eason, have gone through ups and downs over the years.
The Teen Mom 2 alum began dating Eason in 2015, nearly two years before they tied the knot. Shortly after their September 2017 nuptials, the pair welcomed daughter Ensley in January of that year. (Evans is also the mom of son Jace, whom she shares with ex Andrew Lewis, and son Kaiser, whom she shares with ex Nathan Griffith.)
Less than two years later, the pair had gone their separate ways with the MTV personality — who was previously married to Courtland Rogers from 2012 to 2014 — planning to file for divorce.
“I’ve mostly kept off social media the past few days because I’ve been focused on making some big life decisions,” the Read Between the Lines author wrote via Instagram in October 2019. “I’ve lived my life on camera since I was 17 years old. And a lot of it hasn’t been pretty but it’s been my life. Like anyone else, I want what’s best for my kids and I want to be happy. With the time I took away from Teen Mom I’ve started looking at my life differently and I know I need to make changes. I’m starting now.”
Evans continued: “The kids and I have moved away from David. Nobody gets into a marriage expecting it to end but I know that’s what is best for me, and for my kids.”
News of the pair’s split came after Eason admitted to killing their family dog and Evans temporarily lost custody of both Kaiser and Ensley.
“Things have been bad even when they looked good on the surface,” a source told Us Weekly that month. “David was on his best behavior during court and when he had to clean up and prove himself in order to get custody of the kids back. But once it was over he was right back to his old self.”
By March 2020, however, the couple had reconciled, vowing to give their marriage another shot.
“I left him, and I was like, this isn’t going to be good when I go back to him,” the North Carolina native recalled to Us in March 2021. “I know some people don’t understand, but there’s a lot of worse things that have happened in my life than getting back with my husband and trying to work it out. For me, I was willing to give it a second shot. I told David when I came home, I said, ‘If this does not work, we are separating and I am leaving.’ And I think he got it because before, I think [he thought] it just was an empty threat, and then I really left. So, he saw that I really will [leave him]. He started paying attention more to what I was saying.”
The “Girl S#!t” podcast host added: “To me, I felt like we can work through that, especially if we went to marriage counseling and we went to parenting counseling before we’d been to marriage counseling. I’m just glad we got over it. Things are a lot better.”

The pair’s relationship went south two months later. A source told Us that Evans and Eason were “fighting really badly” and the Read Between the Lines author was “over” the relationship. Yet another rough patch in the couple’s tumultuous relationship occurred when Eason shot and killed Evans’ dog Nugget after he claimed it nipped at their daughter, Ensley. The pipe welder admitted to his actions alongside a video of the toddler on Instagram at the time. “I dont give a damn what animal bites my baby on the face,” he wrote. “Whether it be your dog or mine, a dog is a dog and I dont put up with that s—t at all. I’m all about protecting my family, it is my lifes mission. Some people are worth killing or dying for and my family means that much to me.” Evans — whose eldest son, Jace, was on a cruise with her mom at the time — briefly left the couple’s farm with Ensley and her other son, Kaiser, only to return homedays later. Though the reality star told Us she was considering divorce after Eason’s actions, she later revealed to Us that she is “working to fix my marriage as well and moving forward.”
