Jenni Falconer blames ‘balloon-sized ankle’ on acting like an ‘idiot’

Jenni Falconer, 47, has shared several updates about her life including how she prepared for the London Marathon in a new interview.

Speaking with Runner’s World UK, the radio presenter shared how she celebrated the new year before injuring herself ahead of her 16-week marathon training plan.

She revealed: “Unfortunately, I wore heels and danced like an idiot on New Year’s Eve at a ski resort, which isn’t great when you’re about to start a 16-week marathon training plan.

“I had a balloon-sized ankle, so my training got pushed back by a week.”

The radio presenter told the same publication that she ran the London Marathon straight after finishing her radio show.

“I used to do my radio show on race morning and go straight to the race – I’d be on-air in my kit from 5.30am, leave the studio at 9am and head to the start as quickly as I could.”

However, the Scottish star showed that even injuries couldn’t keep her away, as she regularly updates her Instagram with photos of her training.

In her latest social media post, she shared that she trained while on holiday with her family in Spain.

Sporting a neon pink top, flowery biker shorts and blue mirrored sunglasses, the TV star was all smiles as she posed for a selfie.

She captioned the photo for her 277,000 followers: “Tanning and toning…#runningbythesea #holidayrunning.”

Fans loved how she prioritised her fitness with comments, as one person wrote: “Looking extremely well and very fit here Jenni!”

Another user added: “Looking gorgeous sweetheart” and “Stunning”.

Jenni has run in the marathon eight times for different charities and is also an ambassador for the race.

This year’s race took place on April 23 with 49,675 runners.

Although Jenni did not participate in this year’s race, she wished all runners good luck with a post showing several of her previous years.

She posted: “It’s quite simply one of the best days in the running calendar, a wonderful mass participation event where everyone has their own reason to run and each individual will feel a sense of pride on completing.

She added: “Enjoy every second. It is over before you know it (although it might not seem like that at the time!”

The This Morning regular added that she loved running with a smile on her face and encouraged members of the public to “smile back”.

“Every time I run, I have a big, cheesy grin on my face. If you see me out running, please smile back because I smile at everyone!”

However, Jenni is careful when laughing during the sport having experienced first-hand what could happen.

She recalled a time she watched an episode of Friends where Brad Pitt’s character fell off the treadmill, which also saw her do the same.

“It’s hard to watch or listen to something and laugh while running. So I’m now very cautious – running and laughing is hard work,” Jenni added to Runner’s World.
